About us

Built on Trust, Not Pressure

Kingston Jewelry & Coin exists for one reason: to give people in the Wyoming Valley a place to sell jewelry, gold, silver, and coins where they'll be treated with the same respect and honesty they'd want for their own parents or grandparents.

For too long, people selling family jewelry or estate items in Northeastern Pennsylvania have had to choose between two bad options: pawn shops that lowball, or mail-away services that send you a check weeks later for far less than promised. Both rely on you not knowing what your items are worth.

We do it differently. We're a local storefront, on the same street where our customers shop, eat, and live. We're not going anywhere. That accountability — being walkable, callable, accountable — is what changes the relationship between buyer and seller. We show our math. We explain what's valuable and what isn't. And when an item doesn't have resale value, we say so honestly.

Most of our customers are people in their later years cleaning out a home, settling an estate, or simply paring down a lifetime of accumulation. Some come in for cash. Many come in just to learn. Either way, you'll be welcomed, listened to, and treated with care.

Our process

What to Expect on Your Visit

01

Welcome

Walk in during business hours — no appointment necessary. A staff member will greet you and bring you to a private appraisal table away from public view.

02

Examination

Each item is examined under proper lighting and magnification. Precious metals are tested with non-destructive methods (acid test, electronic tester, or XRF analysis where needed). Coins and watches are evaluated against current market guides.

03

Explanation

We walk you through every item — what it is, what makes it valuable (or not), and how we arrived at the value. You see the scale. You see the spot price. You see the math.

04

The Offer

We make a single fair offer for the items you're considering selling. No bait-and-switch. No high opening number followed by a quiet drop. The first number is the number.

05

Your Decision

Take time to think. Ask questions. Compare. There is no pressure and no obligation. Many customers leave to think it over and come back the same week or the next month — that's fine with us.

06

Cash Paid

If you accept, we complete a simple state-required identification step and pay you on the spot. You walk out with cash in hand. That's it.

Common questions

FAQ

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours. If you have a large collection or estate, calling ahead helps us set aside the time to do a thorough job.

Is there a charge for an appraisal?

No. All appraisals are free, whether you sell or not. We'd rather earn a relationship than charge a fee.

How do you determine an offer?

For precious metals: weight × purity × current spot price, minus a small margin for our costs. For coins, watches, and jewelry: condition, rarity, demand, and recent comparable sales. We show our work — you'll see exactly how the number was reached.

What forms of payment do you offer?

Cash on the spot for most transactions. For larger transactions, we can also offer business check.

Do I need to clean or polish items first?

Please don't. Cleaning vintage and antique pieces can damage them or remove patina that adds value. Bring items as-is.

Will my visit be confidential?

Yes. We handle every transaction with discretion. No public displays, no oversharing, no records published anywhere.

Can I sell items that aren't mine?

We only buy from the legal owner of the items. Pennsylvania law requires identification for all transactions involving precious metals. Bring a driver's license or government-issued ID.

What if I just want to know what something is worth, not sell it?

That's fine. We're happy to appraise items at no charge with no expectation that you'll sell. Many of our long-term customers came in once just to learn — and came back later when they were ready.
